While we know there have been a few interruptions during rollout, one of the biggest upgrades to life in Indigo has been the community-wide wi-fi powered by Centric Fiber. We wanted to take a moment to explain exactly what that means, what your $53 monthly fee pays for, and how this service compares to typical internet options in the Richmond area.
What does the $53 cover?
Centric Fiber provides community-wide fiber internet access with an infrastructure that provides wi-fi coverage on patios, trails, parks, and all Indigo common areas, except for the lake. This community wi-fi infrastructure is what the monthly $53 shared cost supports.
Your community fee extends to wi-fi capability inside your home. You do not have to sign up for a separate plan to get basic connectivity — however, you’re still free to subscribe to any other internet provider at your individual address, if you prefer a private plan or higher individual speeds. Just know the community network will remain active and accessible regardless.
In other words, the $53 per month covers your share of the infrastructure and service to the community, not an exclusive contract preventing you from choosing alternatives.
What makes fiber different?
Fiber-optic lines which transmit data as pulses of light through thin strands of glass instead of relying on older copper or coax cabling. The result is reliable connections, higher speeds, symmetrical upload and download performance for video conferencing, cloud use, and more.
This is different from many older or fixed wireless systems, which often have lower upload speeds or shared bandwidth that slows down when many people are online at once. Centric Fiber’s infrastructure gives Indigo a modern backbone that can handle many devices and high traffic simultaneously.
How it compares to typical, local pricing
To give you context for the value of the community-wide service: fiber internet plans in the Richmond, TX area typically ranges from $70 to $80+ per month for a gigabit-class fiber when you subscribe independently. While prices vary by provider, availability, and promotions, this gives a sense of what stand-alone fiber service usually costs without community coverage.
Benefits for Indigo residents
• High-quality fiber internet infrastructure
• In-home wi-fi
• Connectivity that extends beyond your front door and into Indigo shared spaces
We hope this helps clarify how the community wi-fi works and the value it brings to everyday life at Indigo.
